Midwifery Care: an alternative model of maternity healthcare

We offer full scope prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. Our care is distinguished from modern obstetric care in several ways. We offer longer appointments, which helps us to truly get to know you and your family, and support you on your journey to motherhood. We focus on functional medicine approaches to wellness throughout pregnancy, counseling you on diet and lifestyle approaches to mitigate discomforts of pregnancy and avoid complications like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. We wholeheartedly support informed choice, and trust YOU to know what's best for your body and baby, and will offer our professional recommendations when appropriate. We emphasize family-centered and prayerful care, and recognize pregnancy and birth to be a powerfully transformative event for the whole family.

Postpartum, we offer home visits in the first few days after birth to ensure breastfeeding is going well and to check in on you and your baby. We offer naturopathic care of the newborn and support all breastfeeding needs including assessment of tongue tie. We see you more frequently postpartum than the typical obstetric "6 week check-in" during the time that you need support the most, and support your mental health all along the way.

While utilizing this alternative model of care, we do offer the standard bloodwork and urinalysis recommended throughout pregnancy, provide referrals for ultrasounds when indicated, and use evidence-based monitoring for fetal and maternal wellbeing as your baby grows. We may collaborate with obstetricians or maternal-fetal-medicine specialists if rare complications or risk factors develop throughout the pregnancy to confirm safety for out-of-hospital birth.

Group Prenatal Visits: community matters

We are thrilled to offer group prenatal visits for our mothers on Fridays from 2-4pm at the clinic. Come gather, have healthful snacks and pregnancy tea and visit with the other moms and babies, while the midwives see each of you privately one at a time. There is substantial evidence in the literature (and backed by common sense!) that group prenatal visits provide numerous benefits to expecting mothers. Not the least of which is community. Motherhood can be such a joyful time or a very challenging and isolating time for different women. Having a community of other women to support you through this time makes an immense difference. Initial prenatal visits and 28 week visits are generally one on one, and 36/37 week visits are at your home to deliver birth supplies and help you visualize and prepare your birth space.

If you prefer all visits to be one on one, just let your midwife know.

Home Birth: how we support you through a safe, empowering, autonomous birth

Is birthing at home safe? YES! The evidence is clear that laboring and birthing at home, unencumbered by the pressure and stressful environment of a hospital, helps the natural labor hormones flow, and allows the body to make all the miraculous changes and transformations smoothly. Risks to you and your baby are lower if you have a healthy, low-risk pregnancy and choose to birth at home. Your birth attendants are well trained and experienced in handling complications in childbirth, and can identify and treat problems that arise with ease and skill. If you have questions about the safety of homebirth, benefits of unmedicated birth and waterbirth, or questions about complications, please make an appointment with a midwife to discuss if this is the right option for you.

If you are currently obtaining prenatal care with a hospital practice but are hoping for a natural birth, you can still make an appointment with one of our midwives for a childbirth education to prepare for your birth.

We are currently taking  up to 6 birth clients per month, and fill up quickly! Please reach out early in pregnancy to get on our schedule.

Women's Healthcare

The midwives are happy to provide an alternative to typical gynecology care as well. We can provide annual well-woman exams in a warm and friendly space, with women you trust for your most intimate healthcare needs. We offer PAPs and other screenings, birth control (can prescribe or counsel on Natural Family Planning methods), and offer alternative treatment protocols for hormone imbalances, difficult periods, recurrent imbalances in your flora, menopausal symptoms, fertility support, and more.
